Meaning and Explanation of Short Sell and Short Sell Technique

Short Sell is a very interesting and surprising topic in the Share Market. It has got good advantage for the day traders who expect one particular Share will reduce on that day. Many Intraday Traders book profit by using this technique. This technique not only having advantages but also having disadvantage. you will understand the disadvantage of short sell technique after learning what is Short Sell?

I hope you already know how to buy and sell Shares? well, the total process I explained in that post is of general procedure of buying and selling Shares. I didn't add any Short Sell related topic in that post. when coming to the point, in general procedure you should buy shares first then wait for that scrip value to raise, then you have to sell in order to book profits. But in the short Sell Technique you can sell the shares at market price with out buying them first. Yes what you read is correct. you can sell shares even if you don't have those shares in your portfolio. and you can buy shares later but on the same day when the price of that particular scrip reduced. It is just reverse procedure to the general procedure which I explained previously. Here in short Sell you sell shares first with out having them and buy later on the same day at low price. The difference between the selling and buying price is your profit. for better understanding with example see the below picture.

For example take Tata Motors Scrip from the above Picture. Its LTP(Latest Trading price) Price was 319 when I captured and High Price was 340. It means Tata motors was gone to 340 before I captured the pic. In this case assume that I am not having any of tata Motor shares in my portfolio and sold 100 Tata Motors shares at 340. and later you can see that Tata Motors LTP was 319.70. So assume that I bought those 100 shares back at 319.70. So the profit for one share is 20.3. So total profit for 100 shares is 100* 20.3 = 2030. So the total profit that you could book on that day on the Tata Motors Scrip is 2030 rupees. This is the advantage of the short Sell Technique.

There is also disadvantage in Short Sell. After you sell shares in short sell some times if the price of that scrip increases then you would be booking losses. The main disadvantage of this method is that you can not carry this transaction to the next day. You should close the transaction on the same day. Means if you Short Sell, then you should buy those shares back on the same day, you can not hold it to buy it on the next day. If you don't buy then the online system would automatically buy at closing price with out bothering about your loss. So use Short Sell Technique only if you are very confident about particular scrip that it's value will be reduced on the same day. If you are not confident then don't Short Sell.

One more point I forgot to say you which may leads you to the confusion. In Short Sell you can sell shares even if you don't have those shares. In that case you should have the money in your trading account equivalent to the Trade value. for example if you want to sell 100 shares of a scrip which is 100 rupees in market price then you should have 10,000 rupees in your trading account.

I hope you understood well about Short Sell. If you don't understand or if you have any doubts ask me in the comments section. I will answer you the same in the comments section so that it will be useful for others who is having same doubts.

Get 20% Discount on JCPenneoy Gift Card from Amazon and buy anything, or Gift it to anyone.

LTP, Open Price, Low Price, High Price and Close Price terms are Mainly used to represent Particular scrip prices at different levels. Each term is Explained clearly here. Read them perfectly. Don't get confused. After Reading if you have still doubts then post your doubts here in comments. then I will post reply for that. For better understanding I am pasting one PIC here. you can use that for clear understanding. Before continue reading please observe the image carefully.
Names written Under Scrip are Company names, next is Exchange, Next is LTP, Open Price, Low and High Prices are in order.

Here is the Explanation.

What Is LTP (Last Traded Price) :
Full form of LTP is Last Traded Price. It means It shows the Latest Buy or Sell Value and is also called as a Current Market Price. See in the above Pic. ICICI Bank LTP is shown as 767.55. If anybody wants to buy at that particular time when it shows LTP as 767.55 then they should buy at 767.55 only (market Price). If you want to buy a share lesser than the 767.55 then you can place order for lesser value but your order will be processed only when LTP comes to your offered price.
Tip: When you want to buy a share don't be hurry and buy at LTP. Always buy at lesser price by waiting.

What is Open Price:
Open Price is the Price at which particular scrip opened while Capital Market opens with a price. This is the price of a scrip when Stock Market opens in the morning. difference from yesterdays Close Price. See in picture ICICI Bank Open Price is 764.70. That means On that particular day ICICI Bank Opened at the price value of 764.70 in Equity Market.
Observe: Imagine you had purchased 1000 shares of ICICI bank at open Price(764.70) in the morning and sold 1000 shares at LTP of (767.55) later around afternoon then you would get 2.85 profit per share. and for 1000 shares you would get 2850 profit. This is the case for that day.. but don't excite and buy faster. be careful you will also loose in the same way if you don't use Stop Loss.

What Is Low Price:
Low price is the price at which one particular scrip Traded(Buy/Sell) at very low price on that day. in other way this is the lowest price of particular company for that day. See in picture ICICI Bank Low Price is 745.15

What Is High Price:
High price is the price at which one particular scrip Buy or Sell Transaction executed at very High price on that day. See in picture ICICI Bank High Price is 771.75

What is Close Price:
Close Price is the price at which particular scrip traded last at closing time of Equity Market on previous day. See in picture ICICI Bank Close Price is 756.15. That means Previous day ICICI Bank Scrip Closed at 756.15. Close Price is Exactly the previous days LTP When Market Closes.(by 3:30pm)

What is the meaning of Delivery Trading

Delivery Trading is a very secure Trading. If we buy shares today and sell them after 1 day then the type of trading is called as Delivery Trading. Share you bought in Delivery option can be sold at any time before Market closes. I.e up to 3.30 pm. If you buy shares With the Delivery option, It will be taken as Delivery Trade only if you sell your shares after 1 day ( may be next day or after a month or after a year, 3 years when ever you sell after 1 day it is called delivery Trading) In Delivery Trading , it will also allow you to sell your shares with in 1 day also (may be with in 1 sec, 1 hour, Before market closes). But if you sell the shares which were bought with Delivery option with in 1 day(may be with in 1 sec, 1 hour, Before market close) would not be taken as a Delivery Trading and would be taken as Intraday Trading. All the brokerages for such Trade will be charged as per Intraday brokerage charges (0.02% to 0.04%). So here you have to understand that if you buy Shares with Delivery Trading option you can also sell it in Intraday.

The main advantage of Delivery Trading is that, the Loss of Fear of Money is very less when compared with Intraday Trading. you can just be cool if you buy in Delivery bcoz you no need to sell on the same day with the loss, even if the market price of your share value reduces. you can wait for more days to get your price.

The main disadvantage of Delivery Trading is that, the brokerage charged by Share Broking Companies is very high for Delivery Trading. It is around 0.2% to 0.4%. and in this type of Trade, your profit will increase slowly.

So my suggestion to this blog readers is that, always Trading in Delivery is safer than Trading in Intraday.

What is the meaning of Intraday Trading

Intraday Trading is the most popular Trading that many Traders use this type Trading to cash their money soon. If you buy and sell shares in a single day then the type of Trading is called as Intraday Trading. In Intraday Trading you can sell shares with in seconds, minutes and hours after you buy, when ever you want and when your you feel that your profit Target has been reached. But all the shares you bought with the Intraday option should be sold 30 minutes prior to the closing time. The general closing time of Stock Market is 3:30 pm. So you should sell all your shares those you bought with Intraday option should be sold before 3pm. Remember if you sell the shares which bought on previous Trading day, then it will not be considered as a Intraday Trading. In Intraday Trading if You buy shares on 22nd you should sell them on 22nd itself. Intraday Trading gives you high profits when you analyze and trade perfectly and also makes you big loss if you dont trade perfectly.

The great advantage of Intraday Trading is that, in Intraday Trading brokerage is very less. INtraday Brokerage is just about 0.02% to 0.04% depending on the broker you choose. And the dissdvantage of Intraday Trading is that, In Intraday Trading fear of loss of money is more compared to other types of trading. So you may also book more losses in Intrady trading if you do wrong analysis. As we can not guarantee returns on our Investment in Intrady Trading you should be ready for loses that may occur when you Trade. you should know all the current news and issues about share market and analyze the shares that you buy with more care if you want to Trade in Intraday Trading.
